About
About Me:
Thanks for stopping by to visit Bricks and Structures!! My name is Seth Roswurm. I’m a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and licensed Structural Engineer (SE) turned software developer. My career in the structural engineering industry has taken me on a journey across a wide variety of building designs, including governmental buildings, hangars and airport terminals, schools, tornado shelters, apartment complexes and more. My experience spans all aspects of structural design, from initial planning, to analysis / design, and construction oversight.
I’m also a dad. Through fatherhood, I rediscovered my lifelong love for creative expression with Legos. After logging untold hours on the bedroom floor with my kids crafting fun creations, it occurred to me that Lego is uniquely suited to depict the very systems, components, and vehicles that structural engineers work with every day. My kids have been totally immersed in the construction industry since birth, so we spent most of our time building jobsites and construction -themed scenes anyway. One day on a whim I snapped a picture of something structural that the boys and I had been playing with and posted it on LinkedIn.
Much to my surprise, this simple depiction of a Lego framing system and the backstory of construction-related play with my kids prompted an outpouring of amusement and positive feedback from among the hundreds of structural engineers in my professional network. As time went on, I got in the habit of occasionally documenting the scenes we constructed and sharing them for other engineers to enjoy.
As time went on, the photography got a little better and the images began to take on a deeper “storytelling” tone.
About Bricks and Structures:
Bricks and Structures is a permanent home for all of the images, art, creations, and fun that my kids and I create with Legos. Some of the content you’ll find here is purely pictographic for enjoyment. Others might eventually be made available for purchase as instructions, sets, or even fully assembled artwork. I hope you enjoy browsing and experiencing these creations as much as we’ve loved creating them!
